# Install ENERCALC SEL

How to download and install ENERCALC SEL on each computer that runs the software.

## Install ENERCALC SEL

{% hint style="info" %}
**NOTE:** You don't need to install ENERCALC SEL to access the cloud version.
{% endhint %}

Install ENERCALC SEL locally on every computer that runs the software. Don't install it on one computer and run it from another computer through a shortcut. The software won't run correctly in that configuration.

You can install ENERCALC SEL on any computer where you might use it. However, you must activate the software on the computer where you use it.

You can move an activated seat between computers through Internet Activation. An internet connection is required only while activating or deactivating.

### Download the installer

<a href="https://install.enercalc.com/ECSEL20_SETUP.EXE" class="button primary" data-icon="download">Download the ENERCALC SEL installer</a>

The link always provides the most recent software build. Download a new installer when you install the software, because builds are updated regularly.

The installer requests your Product Control Code (PCC). Find this long character string in the latest email from ENERCALC.

Your PCC contains your license details. These include the license holder and the subscription or Maintenance & Support Plan expiration date.

### Install the software

Start the downloaded installer, then follow these steps.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Accept the license agreement

The installer asks you to review and accept the ENERCALC License Agreement. Select **I accept the agreement**, then select **Next**:

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Choose the program location

Next, choose the drive and folder for the program files. The standard Windows location appears by default (`C:\Program Files (x86)\ENERCALC_20`), and we recommend that you keep it.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**WARNING:** Install program files on the local computer. A remote drive can prevent ENERCALC SEL from running correctly.
{% endhint %}

{% step %}

#### Choose the database location

Next, choose the drive and folder for shared databases, including material and section databases. The standard Windows location appears by default (`C:\Users\Public\Documents\ENERCALC Common Data Files`), and we recommend that you keep it.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**WARNING:** Install database files on the local computer. A remote drive can prevent ENERCALC SEL from running correctly.

Windows may default to a OneDrive location. We recommend avoiding folders that are replicated by systems such as Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, Box, Egnyte, SugarSync, IDrive, Sharepoint, etc.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.enercalc.com/sel-installation-activation/installation/installation-overview2.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
