# Zero Values on Stem Tab

Why retaining wall stem moments and shears show zero and how to set stem design heights correctly.

In the stem design, my moments are shears are zero even though I have entered a retained height and active pressure.

Check to see of the "design height" was entered as the retained height (thus asking the program for moments and shears above that point - leading to the zeros). There is never any meaningful purpose for specifying the top of a wall as a stem design height.

Instead, set a stem design height at the base of the stem, and at other elevations of interest below the top of the wall, such as at changes in stem thickness, or at rebar cutoff locations, etc.
