# No more reduction in lap splice length or development length

Explains why lap splice and hooked embedment lengths cannot be reduced for excess reinforcing under ACI 318.

## Why can't I select "Reduce lap splice by stress ratio" or "Reduce hooked embedment by As req'd / As provided" on the Stem tab?

ACI 318 does not permit reducing hooked embedment length using the `As req'd / As provided` ratio.

ACI 318 also prohibits reducing development length for excess reinforcing when calculating lap splice lengths. The restrictions depend on the selected design standard.
