# How is Wood Beam determining the Size Factor?

How the Wood Beam module determines the Size Factor and how to apply it when manually adjusting member dimensions.

## How is Wood Beam determining the Size Factor?

The Size Factor is looked up within a database when a sawn lumber member size is selected.

But the program does not have the ability to determine a different Size Factor if the Member Width or Member Depth are adjusted with the spin arrows, or if values are typed into those fields manually. So if you are working with a sawn lumber member size that cannot be selected from the Wood Section Database, best practice is to temporarily select a section size that uses the desired Size Factor, and then manually adjust the section size. The original Size Factor will be used.
