# Designing a Wood Beam in the Flat Orientation

How to design a wood beam in the flat orientation using the Wood Beam module.

## How can I apply the Wood Beam module for a beam that is in the flat orientation?

Wood Beams can be designed in the flat orientation following these steps:

1. Select the member from the Wood Section Database. (This is how the program reads the correct Size Factor from the database.)
2. Swap the Member Width and Member Depth on the Beam Span Data tab.
3. Supply the appropriate Flat Use Factor on the Beam Span Data tab.
